Tribute & Message From The Family

Jeanne Irene (Brisson) Lamontagne, of Manchester, passed away peacefully at The Arbors of Bedford on October 7, 2019 surrounded by loving family members.

Jeanne was born in Manchester on September 2, 1935, the daughter of Alfred and Cecile (Gauthier) Brisson. She was a graduate of St. Anthony High School and Notre Dame School of Nursing, class of 1956. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony Parish.

Jeanne married Dr. Ovide A. Lamontagne on September 3, 1956 and with him, she had eight children. Jeanne was a wonderful mother who cared for her household with loving attention, patience and grace. Her exceptional hospitality made her home a place where the neighborhood children and adults alike wanted to gather. She opened her heart and home to all and they were warmly welcomed.

Jeanne was a woman of great faith and inner strength. She led by example and rarely used words to have a profound influence on the lives of others. She led her life as a model of Christian love.

Jeanne was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years in January of 2019; her brothers, Roger and Guy Brisson and her eighth child, Jamie.

She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Atty. Ovide and Elizabeth Lamontagne of Manchester, Louise Lamontagne and Thomas Babineau of Manchester, Paul and Debra Lamontagne of Santa Maria, CA, Dr. Roger and Anne Lamontagne of Manchester, Helene and Fr. John Anthony Vidal of Oxen Hill, MD, Gisele and William Thompson of Hooksett and Dr. Denis and Cynthia Lamontagne of St. Johnsbury, VT; twenty grandchildren, Madeleine, Brittany, Sarah, Thomas, Amie, Andre, Erin, Keri, Kathleen, Joseph, Paul, Emily,
Jean-Luc, Gisele Louise, Renee, Lindsey, Kendall, Michael, Marc and James; and five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Josiah, Elizabeth, Clare and William; her brothers, Jack and Raymond Brisson and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 in St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont Street, Manchester. Committal prayers followed at Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.

Condolence & Memory Journal

I awoke with a start in the middle of the night last night, thinking of mu cousin Jeanne... and I new she was gone. I had been unaware of her passing. She was always the sweetest and steadiest person, the real strength and stability of her family. She taught me a lot in our all too rare conversations. She will be missed but not forgotten. My heart goes out to Ovide, Louise, Roger, Denis and all the Lamontagnes. May she rest in peace.

Reflecting on my memories of Mrs. Lamontagne, I'm not able to recall one instance where she didn't make me feel like part of HER family and not just the kid next door she was always so welcoming! At the time, I'm sure I took it for granted, but looking back, I realize that she must have loved her role as mother and nurturer, and enjoyed taking such good care of all of us her family! I'm honored and thankful to have been influenced by her amazing example! Thanks, Mrs. Lamontagne for taking such good care of all of us!!

One of the things Mrs. Lamontagne taught me while growing up was the importance of being consistent. She led by example. She wore a welcoming smile, and I can still hear her sweet voice greeting me as I knocked on the screen door. She was loving and dependable to her husband, children, friends and community. And she truly loved God with all her heart. She taught others the things she knew, like baking. Gisele and I had fun learning from her, but mostly eating her whoopie pies. She was present in the moment, simply being who she was. Making me feel secure and loved through her calm, kind and consistent way is how I will remember her.

Mrs. Lamontagne was always an amazing cook. It wasn't uncommon to be invited to lunch or dinner, as there was always an extra place at her large, hospitable table. She always had kind words and encouragement across the fence while she was picking strawberries. She never missed the opportunity to send a card for a momentous occasion, birthday, or even one to get well. She would celebrate YOU and your specialness. Her children are a true reflection of her love and dedication to family. Her memory will go forward for generations from the legacy of love she leaves in her trail.

Jeanne. Jeanne IS. She is smiling down on us all from Heaven. She has blessed us all, by example with all that is good and wholesome in life. She is filled with grace that comes from the heart of God. She is loving, and kind, filled to overflowing with peace, yet so strong ... and that smile! Jeanne raised the bar of being a loving Mother and devoted Wife, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend. Jeanne's beautiful family, large, and still growing, will always carry the love, the pride, and the joy of her faith-filled exemplary life.
