Edward Gibin Tanng, 85 of Bedford, NH passed away March 16, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

He was born in Taiwan November 9, 1931 the son of Jin-Yeng Tan and Gim-Hon TanKue. After graduating from National Taiwan University in 1963 with a degree in Veterinary Science, Edward entered Tainan Theological Seminary, where he received his Masters of Divinity two years later. He then left Taiwan to complete his graduate studies abroad, first at The University of Cambridge, Stanford University, and finally Michigan State University, where he received his PhD in Mass Communication.

Edward spent the next several years as a professor of Journalism, first at Chinese University in Hong Kong, Memphis State University, and finally Loyola University in Chicago. In 1987 He was ordained as a teaching elder by the Presbyterian Church (USA), and in 1988, he moved to Los Angeles, where he served as a pastor of Formosan Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles until 1991. During this time he was instrumental in starting their sister church, Taiwanese Presbyterian Church South Bay. From 1994-1997, Edward once again became a Professor of Journalism at Chang Jung Christian University in Tainan, Taiwan.

In the late 90s and early 2000s, Edward was very actively working as the Associate for Asian American Ministries for the Synod of Southern California and Hawaii. He provided leadership and resources to pastors and congregations of Asian and Asian American Presbyterian Churches. He was actively involved with racial ethnic and inter-racial ministries. Before his official retirement, he was the Associate Synod Executive for Asian Ministries.
Edward Tanng is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane (Liu) Tanng; four children, Melinda Chen, Eileen Thiessen, Marian Yeh, and Sam Tanng; His sons-in-law, Michael Chen, Paul Thiessen, and Ken Yeh; 7 grandchildren; His brother Daniel Chen, sister-in-law Nai-Jen Lin Chen, nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Bedford Presbyterian Church on Saturday June 17, 2017. Burial followed in Bedford Center Cemetery.
