Obituary for Elizabeth "Bette" Duhaime

September 19, 1925 - March 20, 2022
Manchester, New Hampshire | Age 96

Elizabeth "Bette" (Hartnett) Duhaime, 96, of Manchester, passed away on March 20, 2022.

She lived a long life filled with family, friends, and many memories of happy times.

Bette, a lifelong resident of Manchester, was born on September 19, 1925, a daughter to Elizabeth and Arthur Hartnett, a sister to Arthur, Jr, and wife to Charles Joseph Duhaime, all of whom are deceased.

Bette shared six children with Charlie but sadly mourned the loss of a daughter, Susan Duhaime Sibille, in 2014.

She will lovingly be remembered for her wit and courage during her long, active life. She overcame many challenges with grace, especially after a devastating horseback riding accident as a young mother.

Bette set a lifelong example for her children with her attitude of, "You can't keep a good Irishman down!" her many friends, especially her long-time sisters in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, will miss her willingness to always contribute with kindness. She worked hard to make her way from early days as the elevator girl at Leavitt's Department Store, to being featured as a Manchester Union Leader Homemaker of the Week in the early 1960's, to the establishment of the Wick Shop, her Chestnut Street home decor shop for many years. She was an early influencer!

She is survived by her children, Diana Duhaime, Patricia (and Steven) Wade, Cynthia (and Robert) DuHaime-Londberg, Judith (and Christopher) Ross, and Stephen Duhaime. Bette was a grandmother to eight and a great-grandmother to eight.

Her legacy will grow through her loving family. She will be missed.

The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff at Riverwoods Manchester for the compassionate care given to their mother and the warm friendships formed.
