George Henry "Skip" McNamara III, 83 of Manchester, died Feb 14, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

Skip was born in Manchester on May 25, 1938 to George and Martha (Trefethen) McNamara. He was a Naval veteran, having served many years at the Naval Air Station in Newport, RI (1952-1962).

Skip spent much of his civilian career within Behavioral Health starting with the Manchester Neighborhood Youth Core. He worked 25 years at the Greater Manchester Mental Health Center before retiring in 2000. Putting others before himself was a life-long practice for Skip. Once retired, Skip spent most of his time volunteering in various capacities throughout the city, starting as a Zoning Board member from 2001 -2006.

A proud and loyal friend of Bill W for 26 years, which enabled Skip to become a Board Member of Serenity Place. For his dedication to others, Skip received the Founder's Award (2007) and Courage to Change (2011).

He enjoyed cooking, particularly Corned Beef and Cabbage on St. Patrick's Day and frequently volunteered his time and talents for many local charity events.

Skip is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol (White) McNamara. He is also survived by siblings Robert McNamara, Betty Lagerquist, Kathy Albert and Nancy Bruno. His children include Donna Hayden, Amy Duhaime, Sean McNamara, Aaron McNamara, Thomas McNamara and Beth Sheehan. Skip had many nieces and nephews and was also very proud of his 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Calling hours at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, corner of North St, will be Friday from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at noon in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Manchester. Burial with military honors will be held at the NH Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Greater Manchester Mental Health Center, 1555 Elm St, Manchester, NH 03101.
