Obituary

George J. Angelopoulos, 92, of Manchester, died at his residence July 7, 2018. George was born in Dover, NH October 31, 1925 the son of John and Julia (Petropoulos) Angelopoulos. He served in the Army during World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and was a Purple Heart recipient.

George opened Squires Men's Shop, his first clothing business, in Dover in 1955 and operated it for 15 years before moving to Manchester and he worked for Jim's Oxford Shop. He opened and operated a clothing store on Maple Street with his wife Vivian before they purchased the store that would become his namesake, George's Apparel, in 1988 on Elm Street in downtown Manchester.

For many years George worked seven days a week. He was quoted as saying "When you own your own business, that's part of the deal. But if you really enjoy something, when you come to the store, it's not work. It's just enjoyment. Everything I do is with people. You come in and shake hands. I don't spend a lot of time at the office. I'm in the people business. That's what it's all about."

He leaves four step children, James Richards and wife Bonnie of Concord, NH, Ann Waterman and husband Michael of North Carolina, Cathy Bridget and husband Gary of Arizona, and Scott Richards and wife Deborah of Auburn, NH; 9 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Economopoulos and husband John of Nashua, NH and Martha Carter of Dover, NH; cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his wife Vivian (Richards) Angelopoulos, three siblings and their spouses; Charles Angelopoulos and wife Theodora, Mary Fantini and husband Aldo, Rena Kardulas and husband Christos.
