Obituary

Janet A. Windhausen, 85, of Bedford, died July 3, 2018, at Catholic Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Cambridge, MA on December 3, 1932, the daughter of Walter and Marion (Peers) Flewelling. Janet was a graduate of Belmont High School, Belmont, MA, and earned her BS from Simmons College in 1954.

Janet was an educator for nearly 25 years and specialized in business studies. She was a respected teacher and member of the Trinity High School Faculty for over a decade. She also taught at the Youth Development Center for ten years, and later at Newfound High School.

She married her husband John D. Windhausen in Belmont, MA in 1957. The couple moved to Chicago so that John could continue his studies, and then to Manchester, NH when John took a teaching position at St. Anselm College. During their marriage, John and Jan raised five children and traveled extensively to Europe, Russia, China and throughout the U.S. They were happily married and devoted to each other for 49 years until John's passing in 2006. Jan then moved to Riverwalk in Bedford, NH where she made many friends and served on the Board of Directors and as Chair of the Activity Committee.
Janet enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading and watching movies, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Her surviving family includes two daughters, Brenda A. Windhausen of Dobbs Ferry, NY, and Lisa J. Windhausen and husband Jeffrey Severson of Burlington, VT; three sons, John D. Windhausen, Jr. and wife Inja Stanic of Bethesda, MD, Charles A. Windhausen of Hooksett, and Thomas W. Windhausen and wife Grace of Vassalboro, ME; and eight grandchildren, Brette, Sarah, Alexandra, Allison, Valerie, Katey, Hannah, and Dylan. She was predeceased by her brothers, Walter, Richard and Herb Flewelling.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, July 9, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 190 Meetinghouse Rd., Bedford. Committal prayers followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Currier Museum of Art, 150 Ash St., Manchester, NH 03104.
