Peter William Tewhey, 77, of Bedford, NH passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday August 18, 2017 following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Anne-Marie (Legendre) Tewhey of Bedford; his brothers, John Tewhey and his wife Gloria, Stephen Tewhey and his wife Deborah both of Gorham, ME, his brother-in law Peter Legendre and his wife Judy of Portland, ME; his son, Patrick Tewhey of Manchester, NH; his daughter, Jennifer Drohan, her husband John and his two beloved grandchildren, Sam and Max of Southborough, MA as well as many nieces and nephews. Peter also leaves his best friend since childhood, Paul Murphy of Lewiston, ME.
Born in Lewiston, Maine, he was the oldest son of William and Marjorie (Peterson) Tewhey. Peter graduated from Lewiston High School in 1957 where he was a Merit Scholar, a member of the golf team and a high school delegate to Dirigo Boy's State at the University of Maine. He then went on to attend the University of Maine.
After marrying Anne, he began his career as a packaging engineer at St. Regis in Albany, New York. He was then a long-time employee of Digital Equipment Corporation as a software engineer, working in Maynard, Hudson and lastly Andover, MA. After leaving Digital in 1995 he switched careers to follow his great passion for radio and television. At WNDS in Derry, NH he enjoyed his time as a controller. Peter loved the media as an early child and did also have a Sunday morning program at WEVO Radio Station prior to working in television. He retired in 2010.
Peter was a great lover of music, radio and television. In later years, he loved days at the ocean with Anne, road trips throughout New England, time spent with his brothers, and spending time with his children and two grandchildren.
Per Peter's request there will be no calling hours or funeral. Rather, he wished for a private Celebration of Life with his family in Maine.
