Obituary

Richard D. Beaulieu, 90, of Manchester, died December 7, 2017 at Elliot Hospital after a period of declining health.
He was born in Manchester on April 7, 1927 to Edmond and Laura (Archambault) Beaulieu. He graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1945. After graduation he served with distinction in the 3rd. Amphibious Corps of the U.S. Marines and was stationed in China. He later completed various business courses at UNH, St. Anselm College and NH College.
He owned Richard D. Beaulieu Real Estate Agency for over 45 years. He was an active member of the Greater Manchester Board of Realtors since 1960 during which time he chaired many committees and served as president. He was named Realtor of the Year in 1968 and 1977, an honor given to realtors who provide outstanding service to their profession and community.
For several years, Richard served as a real estate instructor at NH College, Notre Dame College and the American Institute of Banking. Gov. Hugh J. Gallen personally commended him for the important role he played as a member of the Governor's Advisory Committee on Growth.
Dick was a staff appraiser for the Veterans Administration for 15 years. He was heavily involved in the conversion of the 40 unit Amoskeag Terrace apartments into the most successful condominium complex of this size. He also helped develop the 52 unit State Street Apartments.
He was the first real estate broker to be chosen as a director for a major local bank and served in that capacity for several years. He served as director of the Manchester Boys Club and the Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences. He also served in various capacities for the United Way, American Heart Foundation and Catholic Charities.
For many years, he especially enjoyed participating in the Toastmasters International Speakers Club. He was president of the NH Jazz Society and was instrumental in bringing many prominent musicians to Manchester for concert appearances.
Dick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose favorite times were spent with his family. His quick wit and sense of humor turned every get-together, either with family or friends, into a fun time.
Sports were important to him, either as a fan or participant. He enjoyed golf and skiing, which he did into his 80's. He also won a NH statewide photography contest and captured many outstanding photos of beautiful scenery, to the enjoyment of family and friends.
Travel was a very important part of his life. He cherished the trips with his wife, Donna, and their young children to Stowe, VT, Newfound Lake and Hampton Beach. Annual family vacations at the Village Green in Stowe and the many trips he and Donna took throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe brought him much pleasure.
The family includes his wife of 67 years, Donna (Merrill) Beaulieu of Manchester; his children, Brittany Lantaigne and her husband, Peter, of Manchester and Gary Beaulieu and his wife, Karen, of Bedford; two grandsons, Matthew and Joseph Beaulieu of Bedford; two sisters, Lori Beaulieu and Dr. Joan Hurlock both of Philadelphia, PA; a brother, Norman Beaulieu and his wife, Pauline, of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.
